How it works — three steps
Tell the funeral home you'll be providing your own casket or urn. Gentle words that work: "We'll be providing our own casket. We understand there's no fee for that." They may not refuse it, charge a handling fee, or require you to be present for delivery.
Order with delivery to the funeral home. At checkout, enter the funeral home's address and your arrangement date. Retailers coordinate delivery timing with the funeral home directly — it's routine for them.
Confirm it on the itemized statement. The final Statement of Goods and Services should show no casket charge and no handling fee. If anything appears, ask for it to be removed — the law is on your side.
